The project is the largest project in Egypt for the improvement of the environment, rehabilitation and expansion of all the sewerage networks, collectors and culverts, pump stations and treatment plants for Greater Cairo in addition to the construction of new networks, pump stations and facilities for the unsevered areas in Greater Cairo.

The project comprises:

– The construction of approximately 37 km of sewers and collectors in Embaba, Aguza, Dokki and Boulac El Dakrour, including eleven crossings of railway tracks, two canal crossings, extensive relocation of existing utilities, and connection to existing sewerage system at more than 200 locations.

– Culverts to convey wastewater from Boulac pumping station approximately 5600 meters to South Muheit pumping station, from South Muheit station approximately 2800 meters to junction pumping station, and 1700 m. to Abu Rawash Pumping Station.

– Five pumping stations to lift untreated wastewater to gravity flow conveyance systems (sewers or culverts).  The pumping stations are Embaba, Boulac, South Muheit, Junction and Abu Rawash pumping stations.

• Embabba pumping station(3 screw pumps)with discharge capacity of 240,000m3/d to level +6.1m
• Boulac  pumping station(4 screw pumps)with discharge capacity of 624,000m3/d to level +8.5m
• South Muheit pumping station(4 screw pumps)with discharge capacity of 624,000m3/d to level +8m
• Junction pumping station(5 screw pumps)with discharge capacity of 832,000m3/d to level +7.1m
• Abu Rawash pumping station(5 screw pumps)with discharge capacity of 832,000m3/d to level +6.5m

– The construction of Zenein pumping station complex( with average capacity of 330,000m3/d- secondary treatment) and Guiza Relief collector.  The complex consists of a double lift screw pumping station ( each consists of 4 pumps, lifting to level +8,5m & +7.5m, with average discharge of 393,000m3/d), a transformer building and a stand by generator building.

– Pyramids culverts and associated appurtenances to carry wastewater from Pyramids pumping station 7600 m along Mansoureya Canal road to junction pumping station.

– The construction of the Pyramids pumping station complex to lift untreated wastewater to the Pyramids culverts for conveyance to Abu Rawash wastewater treatment plant. The station consists of 3 screw pumps with average discharge of 416,000m3/d to level +8.5m.

– Rehabilitation of Zenein wastewater treatment plant and incorporate it into the Greater Cairo wastewater system, along with four new treatment plants.  This is in addition to Embaba sewers and house connections, Pyramids collectors, sewers and house connections, Cheops pumping station (2 screw pumps and Abu Rawash effluent disposal system.

General Training Services:

– Laboratory training and analysis program, courses and samples analysis from different selected locations in the Greater Cairo Wastewater collection system.

– Training courses on “Principles of Diesel Engineering”.

Operational Support Group / General Maintenance Training:

– The diesel, electrical, submersible pump, and general maintenance training programs at the Zenein Maintenance Workshops.

– Advises on coordination of operation and maintenance activities between the Zenein workshops and the West Bank Screw Pump Stations.

Rehabilitation:

– Preparation of a training plan and training of present employees and candidates for future positions in the categories of operation and maintenance.

– The provision for a sludge management study to determine long-term proposals for processing, utilization and disposal of sludge, grit and screenings from wastewater treatment plants.

– The provision for services of an information group to increase public awareness of the project and establish records / archive system.

The provision of computer systems. Training for operation, maintenance and training on the use of the computers and software provided for the employers

To meet the growing needs of this new settlement, NOPWASD decided to construct a (4) stages water treatment plant with a capacity of 2,000,000 m3 / day.

The first stage started early 2007 with a capacity of 500,000 m3/day.

The turnkey project includes the construction of all internal pipe lines, all civil and electromechanical works

• The main distributor of turbid water 2,000,000 m³ / day capacity for the entire four phases
• (8) Clarifiers for the first phase
• (22) Sandstone filters for the first phase the discharge of each is 25,000 m³ / day, as well as, an underground tank with a capacity of 20,000 m³ under the filters.

UCCMA‘s new mega pharmaceutical and vaccine complex shall be constructed over an area of (180,000m²).

The mega project shall consist of (6) production plants that will be implemented in two phases:

–    Surgery division which includes 4 operating rooms, general medicine and kidney clinic, with a blood bank and various laboratories.

–    Isolation (fever) division which includes 10 beds.

–    Psychiatry division which includes 10 beds

–    The out patients clinic which includes 10 diagnosis rooms.

Saleh & Hegab formerly Sabbour Associates has assumed the role of project management and coordination between contractors, achieving good technical standards with reduced costs.

The hospital is built to serve employees of the Ministry of Electricity in all the medical branches. It is built over about 8000 m2 to accommodate 150 beds (1st stage) and 330 beds (2nd stage) over 8 storeys including a two-storey underground garage. The hospital includes all branches of surgery, incubators, intensive care unit and artificial kidney unit. It also includes an outpatient clinic, an X-ray unit, blood bank, analysis laboratory physiotherapy and rheumatology, emergency and a drug store.  The hospital also has the capacity to accommodate 30 rooms for resident doctors, and 20 beds for nurses.

The consultant was awarded the works, by winning the first prize in an architectural competition.  His responsibilities also included medical equipment.  The hospital has separate services and mechanical building including (boilers, transformers, generators, air conditioning equipment and pumps).

The hospital was designed using the most recent methods to allow future expansion and developments, especially in divisions requiring such works.  The hospital is equipped with the most advanced medical equipment, housing nine (9) main operation rooms with a transplant unit, according to the highest technical requirements, in addition to the emergency operations rooms.

1. Establishment of World Trade Center Towers covering an area of 15 123 sqm., consisting of:-

• Three-storey garage below Kampala road level.

• Two connected towers one as administration building and the other as hotel apartments with total height 12 storeys of which two storeys are allocated for technical services
• Three storeys covering the area of the 2 towers, 2 of which are meant for recreation area & the third for serving this area.

Consequently, the total height of the 2 towers is 22 floors of which 3 floors are below ground level.

The dormitory site, close to 3000m2 in area, is designed to accommodate initially 200 female students, and 120 male students.  It is a five storeys, fully air conditioned, reinforced concrete building, modern in concept but at the same time reflecting the Islamic culture of Egypt and the Arab region.  The building includes about a 1000m2 basement for parking and services.  Other facilities, including laundry, recreation room, reception, lounges, clinic, study area and a small cafeteria for fast food preparation, are provided in the common services area on the ground floor.

The upper 4 floors accommodate the students in single, double and some triple rooms.  The design provides a careful separation of male and female students on each floor, with enough flexibility to adjust their ratios in the future.  The design and structure for the building include the capability to increase the building to 10 storeys in the future.  This expansion will be able to accommodate 480 students.

The project aimed at establishing the headquarters of the Supreme Constitutional Court so as to accommodate the different departments of the Court over the land overlooking the Nile at Maadi, the total area of ​​which is approx. 8,000 m²

The architectural design of the building reflects the Pharaonic style providing an impressive landmark in Cairo.

The building consists of a basement, ground floor and five floors, with a total built up area of approx 30,000 m² and comprises the following:

• Basement: an underground garage to accommodate 150
• Ground floor: contains the main entrance for the Judges and commissioners, lateral entrances for the staff and service, large lounge for the reception and distribution, museum to display the collection of the Court, Commissioners’ Office, prayers room, a clinic, administrative offices, خزانة عامة, and different services.
• First floor: contains the main entrance hall, salons and information services, conference hall that accommodates up to 500 guests equipped with all audio-visual media and modern interpretation equipment and complementary services, in addition to salons to receive VIP visitors.
• Second floor: contains the offices for the judges and their secretaries, translation and media rooms that serve the conference hall, in addition to various administrative offices.
• Third floor: contains the Counselor’s suite that includes the main offices and two halls for the reception and meetings of VIP visitors, offices for the director and secretarial staff of the President of the Court, the public relations office, offices for the counselors and secretaries of their own, different administrative offices, 3 floors library internally connected with ladders and may take up to several thousands of legal literature encyclopedias, the library is connected to a computer and microfilms room.
• Fourth floor: contains an office for the judges and their secretaries, as well as administrative offices.
• Fifth floor: contains a lounge for the judges and counselors, a ballroom that accommodates 100 visitors, as well as a cafeteria for 50 visitors that may be increased to 100, in addition to a ballroom for 50 visitors equipped with the most modern audiovisual system.

The objective of this renovation is to replace all the existing electrical system without the interrupting the working conditions of TB-2.

The new electrical systems is designed to use all  advantages of existing system and  avoid any disadvantages.

New system and equipment were introduced to the  electrical system, e.g. dry type cast resin transformers, SF₆ medium voltage switchgear with new technologies, the latest moderate power monitoring and control system, P.F. correcting capacitors, voltage regulators, …. Etc.

Also a detailed load analyses together with simultaneous field measurements of load variations and characteristics at various location carried out.  A harmonic analyzer was used in pre-selected location of the M.V./ L.V. network to monitor and record variations in the current, voltage, p.f., harmonic content,… etc. of the supply.

Automatic voltage regulators (A.V.R) which acts and responds automatically to correct the voltage to the nominal voltage 11 K.V was used.

By- pass switches shunting the isolating transformer (T4), to keep the reliability of the supply to the essential loads.

The ratings of some distribution transformers in the system was increased to allow increasing the essential loads, supplied  by the emergency diesel- generator sets in case of power failure and allow for future expansion.

The  SCADA ( Supervisory, Control and data acquisition ) system was incorporated in the new system to enable remote monitoring and control of all M.V. circuit breakers and main L.V. circuit  breakers, also the system employ the most update tele-metering technology and software packages.

Essential lighting for “arrival” and “departure”  and other halls shall be increased from 25% to 100% of the total lighting load belt conveyors emergency loads will be increased to 100% . For 400 cycle station ,emergency loads will be increased to 50% .

The control panels and The synchronizing  panel of the existing diesel generators sets were changed to new digitally control panels and employs modern power electronics technology.

For air- conditioning, it was arranged for the provision of an additional transformer rated at 2.5 M.V.A & 11KV and 6.6KV panels for the planned third chiller.  Also the existing 6.6KV panels feeding the chillers were replaced with new up-graded panels.

The building is 30 stories high, five floors to accommodate the public area with the largest and most luxurious  banquet hall in Cairo, private as well as public restaurants, tea gardens, conference halls and swimming pools, a business center and a shopping center, in addition to a 2 level underground garage.

The hotel was designed by Benjam Tomson and Saleh & Hegab formerly Sabbour Associates, while the construction management and supervision were Saleh & Hegab responsibility.  The pile foundations were constructed by a German Egyptian Contractor.  The superstructure was constructed by a French Egyptian contractor.  Other specialized works were executed by Yugoslav, Italian Contractor.

The hotel electrical, mechanical and finishing trades, were carried out in compliance with the latest technology at the time of construction ,  such as:

The project is a complex over an area of 185,000 m², designed to accommodate a 5-star hotel with 366 guestrooms and suites in the main building and eleven separate annexes, operated by Movenpick. The hotel will host visiting dignitaries, investors, conference attendees and movie stars. The project comprises the following:

The main building: 5 storeys with total built area of 19,280 m² including two basements and three upper fully air-conditioned storeys. The public area in the ground floor includes support facilities, shopping arcade and an entrance foyer, public and speciality restaurants, kitchen, stores, offices and the necessary services. On the same level, the health club includes a gymnasium hall supplied with sauna room, showers, lockers, hair dressers and massage rooms. The banquet hall in the first floor, is designed to accommodate 1000 guests and facilities to serve businessmen and cafeterias.

The VIP building: 3 storeys with total built area of 2,060 m².

Ten guestroom annexes: 3 storeys with total built area of 24,230 m².

The entire hotel rooms enjoy a unique view of 4,500 m² of swimming pools, ponds with crossing bridges, as well as, the convention center built over an area of 12,500m² considered as the largest in the Middle East.

The external works: include landscaping for the general layout defining car-parking areas, green areas and footpaths, fences and gates with total built area of 15,000 m².

The proposed road studies are part of the Preferential Trade Area (PTA) road transport connecting Uganda Road network to that of the neighboring countries and have a total length of 180 kms.

• The Katunguru- Kasese -Fort Portal Road is of 108 kms length and forms a section of the Trans-African Highway linking Mombasa in Kenya to Lagos in Nigeria. The first 31 kms to Kasese the character of the road is almost flat, with gentle horizontal and vertical geometry for about 20 kms.  It traverses the Queen Elizabeth National Park, the terrain around this part of the road is open and flat.

In this area, the pavement is badly deteriorated, the pavement surface appears to be aon open textured macadam.

As the road approaches Fort Portal it follows the contours and begins to cross them.

From Port Fortal boundary the condition of the road is far worse.

• The Fort Portal-Bundibugyo Road is of 70 kms length. For the majority of its length, this road crosses mountaineous terrain with steep slopes and difficult horizontal curves.  There is a clear need for a total hydrological study and a comprehensive drainage design.  The road passes by the dense Semiliki Forest Reserve.  The land adjacent to the road appears to be potentially productive.

The study included a preliminary engineering study for both parts of the road.  The different treatments were throughly analysed for the proposed alignments according to the estimated quantities and costs.

By the approval of that feasibility study detailed design and tender documents were done for both sections of the road.

Environmental Impact Assessment

The environmental effects of the road improvements had been considered as a whole and within the ambit of Uganda’s development plans.  Because the improvements were planned to occur within the existing corridor, and almost completely on the existing alignment, many of the potential negative effects of road development had been avoided.  Consequently, the economic benefits which were expected to follow the road improvements such as the increased agricultural industrial, forestry and tourist activities have been achieved.

The road lies in the north west area in Sierra Leone with a length of 120 km.  The project road forms part of the Trans West African Highway. It forms part of the road network linking the Republic of guinea to the North, Sierra Leone and Liberia to the South East.

SCOPE OF WORK

Feasibility study including:-

• Transportation and traffic study.
• Hydraulical, Geological study.
• Topographical study.
• Detailed Field Survey including:

– Horizontal traverse to locate the selected alignment using permanent beacons at 500 m intervals.

– Level traverse every 50m and over the permanent marks .

– Cross sections every 100m or at such closer intervals where required according to terrain.

– Detailed surveys were carried out on major intersections and sites of major drainage structures.

• Sub-Surface soils and materials investigations:

– All the borrow areas identified in the Preliminary Design have been visited and trial pits excavated on a grid pattern at 50m.

– The trial pits along the centre line of the proposed road have been excavated at 1.5km intervals.

– The necessary foundation investigations for the structures were carried out.

– The Government permitted to make use of the Ministry of Work’s Soils Laboratory equipment and staff for the purpose of the samples testing.

– Preparation of the Soils Report.

• Design of Road Pavement:

– Both the traffic forecasts and traffic loading data contained in the Feasibility Study Report were used and the data obtained in the course of the detailed design of the Waterloo-Masiaka Road taking the likely increase in axle loads.

– To produce a most economic pavement the AASHTO “Interim Guide for the design of Pavement Structures” and the TRRL ROAD NOTE 31 were adopted “A GUIDE to the Structural Design of Bitumen Surfaced Roads in Tropical and Sub-Tropical Countries”.

Using 5cm thick surfacing to produce a pavement of minimum maintenance.

• Design of Bridges:

There are two major bridges to be designed one of 60m in length over the Bankaska river and the other is of 18m in length over Tonko river, both bridges are cast-in-situ reinforced concrete frame.

• Tender Documents and Cost Estimates:

–    The measurement of quantities and preparations of the Bill of Quantities for all of the works.

–    Preparation of the Specifications for all works other than the road works.

The purpose of this road project is to link Madinat Al Sharq and Al Dalil, two important towns and intermediate villages of the Republic of Yemen. The actual project is only concerned by Madinat Al Sharq Suk Talut Section 42 km.  The existing route comprises a series of disconnected tracks 3-5 m wide, capable of passing only 4 wheel drive light vehicles. The terrain is mountainous for over 80% of the length. Land use along the route is mainly agricultural .The primary objectives of the project are:

1. To stimulate socio-economic activity in a geographical area of about 4000 sq. covering a large number of villages and towns;
2. to provide a more direct and shorter connection between the major port Hodeidah in the West to the South Central part of the country; and
3. to improve inter-district communication.

In general, our firm is responsible for the following :

• Construction of 7 reinforced concrete bridges of total length 319 m, 3 of which between Natitingou – Tanguieta; the remaining 7 bridges between Tanguieta – Porga.
• Repairing and rehabilitation of 10 bridges constructed on 1987, of total length 320 Km, where  7 from R.C of 247 m between Natitingou – Tanguieta ; and 3  steel bridges of length 30 , 21 and 22 m respectively.
